Yeah. I'm keeping my windows 10 boot USB. A couple of weeks ago I had to reinstall Windows 10 on my wife's computer because it wouldn't boot the OS. I'm not taking any risks when it comes to troubleshooting. And screw Windows 11, I'm not upgrading to that bloat-ridden monstrosity. My next step if I get tired of Windows 10 is Linux.

Windows doesn't "support" anything, ever, unless maybe you pay for it. I haven't received Windows "support" in years. Not sure what the fuss is about.

If you do not leave your computer running 24/7 and have it protected with a firewall, security updates are not an issue. I will NOT be upgrading any of my systems past Windows 10. I am not going to pay for nor support the actual goal Microsoft is working toward.. sooner than later. I have never used AV nor anything else. I don't go places I don't need to go and I don't let my systems run 24/7. And for those claiming "Linux" will become the go to and take over the market, not a chance in the current state of it. Why? Because there is no standard. How many 'versions' of linux exist today? Your average computer user has no interest or the skillset to deal with figuring out which brand, version, style and flavor of linux to install... let alone be supported. The ONLY way we get out of the monopoly by microsoft they have with Windows, is to stop UPGRADING to new versions. People have power and if people stop buying their product one of two things WILL happen. Microsoft will figure out real quick, they need to make some changes OR another company will finally produce a new, better OS to replace it. As for the "goal" Microsoft has for the future, I know a reputable windows engineer who is also a friend of mine. He has made it clear that Microsoft has a goal and most people have no clue about it. Microsoft wants to move the Windows platform into subscription modeling. They also want to create versions that are akin to a 'dumb terminal' where everything is locked down so it cannot be manipulated by the average user, all in the name of 'security'. For above average users, it will cost you big time for the privilege... That's right, you would have to pay a subscription to run your own computer and the price you pay determines the version you get to pay a subscription for. I will not support it with my own money, not a snowballs chance. If that means I no longer am able to run more modern software at some point, than so be it. I can live without a computer even though I have 25 years training, experience and design of software under my belt. Today it is not about making better and faster solutions, it is all about GREED and stock pricing. Mark my words, this entire endeavor is not going to end well if it continues and if people do not start paying attention.

It's not the end, it's just the end of support. You can still use it just as you can use any OS you choose. This guy must get kickbacks from MS.

I used Windows 7 for YEARS after it lost support. What happened? I had no issues. In fact, never having to bother with updates again was great. Literally only reason I updated to Windows 10 was because of some games I wanted to play. I dont think I will update further than Windows 10 unless some game I really wanna play that requires Windows 11 shows up.

Why not just clone your entire storage drive? It's far better, keeping safe your entire system, apps, and data safe.

I've already put Zorin Linux as dual boot on my computers that can't run Win11 and will run Zorin when I have Win10 problems. Why landfill a perfectly good computer to get Win11 when Microsoft will bring out Win12 within the next two years? Just keep on with Win10 or use Linux for a couple of years and, when your conputer is well past it and you feel justifued in landfilling it, get a Win12 computer. In short, don't buy a new machine for win11 if your machine is meeting your needs, bypass Win11.

Ever since getting into computers back in 95...I was always told "Microsoft is evil". Well...they weren't lying-Kinda. You just gotta know your stuff to get around a few things like this man mentions. Still have ALL the old Windows 7 and up updates on disk.

I didn't make it passed 1st grade. What do I do with the flash drive when I need it? I have a 32 gb flash which had my Dell recovery drive. Supposedly, boot up with that and... nothing happened. It's now erased and I'm using it for this.

whenever i install a new Windows version i switch off updates. i never updated a Windows version to their new surveillance algorithms. and there are ways to install 11 on older machines. Windows is a Trojan itself, so if you want a secure system then go for some UNIX derivate, Linux, FreeBSD or similar. edit: been in the pro business for 36 years (1989).

Thanks so much for this information. We tend to panic when what feels like a threat with a deadline can cause a lot of anxiety. I also have old PCs with programs on them that I still use... like CorelDraw and Adobe Photoshop I paid for and use a lot. They still generate jpgs, and other formats acceptable and transferable in new programs. I'm saving thousands of dollars on the new versions I have to subscribe to.

I left Windows & Apple OS a couple of decades ago. Linux is the dual boot that makes both Microsoft & Apple irrelevant. I only retain a partition of Windows for a rare legacy boot where I have what the original installation was for a Dell or Lenovo computer. I just find everything Linux just is equivalent or better on any computers I have. Sad part about Windows, they find the vulnerabilites that were never discovered & patched. News flash, they all are insecure, why start with Windows 11 for vulnerabilites that were never fixed anyway ? Linux is free, supported much longer than anything that Microsoft or Apple has. I made the move June 2006. The free Apple & Microsoft OS's, those aren't free, the corporations selling the computer hardware raise their prices accordingly, we still pay, probably even more with that inflation for that OS. Android & Google are similar to Linux, relatively free ? Google makes more money on everything else, so the appearance that it's free is a relative illusion of free.
